Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 17, 2026

Billzy ("we", "our", or "the App") is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, process, and protect your personal information when using our mobile application, website, and associated services, including Google account authentication and Google AdMob ads.

1. Information Collection

We collect information you provide directly to us when using the app or signing in. This may include basic data from your Google profile.

2. Authentication & Accounts

We provide secure login via the Firebase Auth SDK. If you choose to sign in with your Google account, we receive basic public profile information (such as your name, email address, and profile picture) solely for creating and managing your Billzy account. We do not have access to your Google password.

3. Image Processing

Billzy offers receipt scanning using Artificial Intelligence (Google Gemini). Photos are sent to Gemini to extract items, prices and, when present, the merchant, date, currency, total, taxes and discounts. In a quick split we don't keep the image after the analysis. If you scan a receipt inside a group, or attach photos to an expense, the image is stored in Firebase Storage as an attachment of that expense and every member of the group can see it.

4. Storage & Protection

Your splits, saved people and groups are stored in Google Firebase (Firestore and Storage) linked to your account, which may be anonymous. Access to each group's data is restricted to its members by security rules.

5. Groups & Shared Expenses

If you create a group or join one with an invite, we store the group name, its participants' names (who may not have an account) and the transactions recorded in it: title, amount, currency, date, who paid, how it is split, category, notes and attached photos, plus who created or last edited each one. Every member of the group can see this information. If you delete your account you leave your groups, but the transactions remain for the other members.

6. Payout Methods

If you set them up, we store your IBAN, your PayPal.me or Revolut username and your Bizum phone number in a private profile only you can read. They are only included in a payment request message when you choose to send it. They are deleted when you delete your account.

7. Read-only Links

Any group member can create a link to a web page with the group summary (participant names, transactions, amounts and balances, without notes or photos). Anyone with the link can view it until a member disables it. These pages are not indexed by search engines. Payment requests also include a single-use link the person who owes money can use to mark the debt as paid; the page shows the group name, the debtor's and creditor's names and the amount, and using it records the payment in the group.

8. Notifications

If you turn them on, we store a device identifier (push token), its platform and your language, linked to your account, to alert you when you get paid, when your groups have new expenses, when someone joins a group or when a debt is reminded. Delivery goes through the Expo notification service and Apple or Google. You can turn them off in Profile or in the device settings; the identifier is removed when you turn them off, sign out or delete your account.

9. Exchange Rates

To convert expenses in other currencies we look up the European Central Bank reference rates through the Frankfurter service. These requests contain no personal data.

10. Third-Party Services & Advertising

We integrate Google AdMob in the app and Google AdSense on the website to show ads; they may use cookies or device identifiers to show personalized ads based on your interests. We use PostHog for usage analytics (with your prior consent); session recordings hide text and images. We also use Google Firebase (authentication, database and storage), Google Gemini for AI processing and Frankfurter for exchange rates.

11. Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your account and associated data directly from the app settings. You can also opt-out of personalized advertising through your Google account settings.
